Ads Incoming For Amazon Prime Video Users

Amazon has followed rivals Disney+ and Netflix is announcing its intentions to include adverts for its streaming customers.

Amazon Prime members in the US, Germany, UK and Canada will start seeing adverts from early 2024. France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, and Australia will follow later in the year. It is a huge change for the streaming service and was announced online in a statement. It wrote: “To continue investing in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period of time, starting in 2024, Prime Video shows and movies will include limited advertisements in the UK. We aim to have meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers.”

It added that there will be an ad-free option available. This will cost $2.99/ month extra for US customers but there are no details as yet for European customers. Pundits are questioning whether it will alienate subscribers who already pay around $139 (£95) a year. The subscription cost for 2024 will not rise.
